Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Brief Course Description

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a 2-day course presented by the Emergency Nurses Association, designed to provide the learner with cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills in trauma nursing. Content is delivered through lectures and skills stations. Upon successful completion of the course (written and skills exams), each participant will receive a verification card. Expiration of verification card will occur four years from the first day of the month in which the card was issued. Only Registered Nurses will be issued certification cards.

TNCC Detailed Course Description

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is a 16-hour course presented by the Emergency Nurses Association, designed to provide the learner with cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills in trauma nursing. Content is delivered through lectures and skills stations.

The TNCC (Provider) manual is designed to reinforce and supplement lectures and psychomotor skills content. The interactive psychomotor skill stations facilitate initial integration of psychomotor abilities in a risk-free setting which simulate trauma patient situations. The following psychomotor skill stations are included in the TNCC (Provider): Trauma Nursing Process (scenario-driven, interactive trauma assessment), Airway and Ventilation Interventions, Spinal Immobilization, Selected Interventions: Chest Trauma and Traction Splinting. A ratio of one faculty per four learners is required. Each participant is provided the opportunity to practice the identified skills during rotation through the skill stations.

Successful Completion

Successful completion of the course requires 80% or greater on the multiple choice exam and 70% or greater on the skill station evaluation. RN Candidates with successful completion will receive the ENA TNCC 4 year provider verification card.

Provider Information

All attendees will be awarded a contact hour certificate with appropriate contact hours. 15.58 contact hours are awarded based on the hours attended, regardless of evaluation. The Emergency Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The Emergency Nurses Association is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #2322.

It is mandatory to have the most recent version of the TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) Provider Manual with you for the course.  To ensure you have the most up to date version, we suggest purchasing the text with your course registration.  It is imperative that participants study the textbook prior to the class to prepare for active participation and successful completion.  The TNCC (Provider) manual is designed to reinforce and supplement lectures and psychomotor skills content.
